NACP IS READY FOR ANOTHER GREAT SCHOOL YEAR

NEW Academy Canoga Park is now in its 4th year and what a year it will be! We currently have 21 credentialed teachers, an art teacher, music teacher, librarian, and resource teacher! A few changes are in store for this upcoming year. We have now added Ms. Jefferson (formerly 3rd grade) to teach music full time in room 101, and Mrs. Amico (formerly 1st grade) to teach art full time in room 102. Mrs. Ellis continues to do an outstanding job as our new Assistant Principal. Teachers are also excited to begin teaching readers and writers workshop this year. With this new program children will have access to higher quality literature and spend more time reading stories at their appropriate reading level. Our goal is to continue to increase reading and writing test scores, while creating life long readers and writers. Here at NACP we want our students to see reading and writing as a gift, not a chore. Congratulations to all of our hard working 2nd-5th graders who scored proficient or advanced on the California State Test last Spring. NACP made significant improvements in language arts, math and science. Students who scored well and made improvements were invited to a special rock climbing event on Tuesday September 9th. Our API score is now 693!

NEW TEACHERS; NEW SURPRISES
As NACP expands to almost 500 students, we are excited to welcome 5 new amazing teachers to our staff. In 5th grade we have Ms. Greenan in room 215. You may recognize her from LA’s Best! In 3rd grade we would like to welcome Ms. Perez in room 207. In 2nd grade is now Ms. Qualls in room 204. In 1st grade we now have Ms. Donelson who joins us all the way from the east coast! In addition, we would also like to welcome Ms. Kolesar as our new resource teacher. Some of our veteran teachers also had an eventful summer. Mrs. Coronado is on maternity leave with her new baby boy, and Ms. Martinez will be teaching her class until she returns. Also, Ms. Valverde was married and is now Mrs. Tafoya! Congratulations to all the wonderful staff at NACP, we are well on our way to another successful school year.
